Buying a new house that needs updating? This Victorian townhouse in Notting Hill was bought by our clients when they returned to live in the UK, there was only one downside it needed a complete overhaul. Untouched since the 90s the property needed intensive structural repairs and a complete rejig of the internal layout. To top it all we were invited to complete the interior design of the spaces, this meant the spaces became more welcoming, and informal and enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the house. An awkward old-fashioned extension was removed to improve the flow of the space and to allow natural light to come to the core of the house. The clients were extensive collectors of art, books and even fabric (one of the clients loves making her own clothes), this meant we could create a palette of not only unusual materials but instinctually use texture and colour to define different areas. From formality to the casual, different spaces were created either within the more strict classical layout of the original house or more fragmented, to give an open inviting expanse. We set to work introducing interesting materials that also had a function such as reflection, sharpness, softness or warmth depending on the desired result for each room. Contrasting finishes makes for a very impressive elegant and rich solution. The finishing result - an incredibly elegant house and interior with a collection of beautiful objects.
